Osgood Schlatter’s disease

This is a condition which Adrian sees frequently in his paediatric knee practice. The condition usually occurs in growing adolescents and is the result of a traction type injury where the patellar tendon or kneecap tendon attaches to the tibia bone. This results in a painful tender bony area at the attachment of the tibia bone. Occasionally this can result in fragmentation of this bony area.

Treatment of this condition is usually supportive with physiotherapy, analgesics and activity modification. In the majority of cases the condition will resolve over time.
